Pearl Linguistics provides BSL interpreters for a wide range of Public Sector clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

From GP appointments to housing application assessments, there is no requirement we cannot meet.

Due to the demanding and vital nature of the work our clients undertake, Pearl are accustomed to providing BSL interpreters at very short notice and often in remote geographical locations nationwide.

At Pearl, we understand the importance of providing a quality interpreting service and therefore all of our BSL interpreters hold qualifications in BSL interpreting and are registered with MRSLI, NRCPD and/or ASLI. They are all fully trained in specific areas of interpreting such as the NHS, Police, Courts, Immigration etc and all hold an enhanced CRB check.

Hundreds of Public Sector clients access our BSL interpreters daily, whether on an ad-hoc basis or via an ‘exclusive contract.’

Pearl not only provides BSL interpreters, but regularly provides other services for other forms of communication as follows:

Audio into Text (Transcription): This is needed when a recorded conversation such as police interviews (witness/suspect/victim interviews) is converted from the spoken word to a written format so that it can be either translated or used to verify what is being said in a given language on the original recording.

Text into Audio (CD and/or Cassette Recording): This is needed when you need to send a letter or any other information to a client who can not read in any language. Your text is recorded in a cassette or a CD so that your client can listen instead of reading. You might need to use the translation service first if your client can not speak English.

Foreign Audio into English text (Audio Translation): This is direct translation without transcription of a recorded conversation (either on video or audio tape). The main advantage is that this method of transcription is faster than the traditional method of transcription and then translation of the transcript.

Voice-over is similar to "Text into Audio", however, is done more professionally, using professional voice-over artists. Recording is done and edited in a professional studio. It is suitable for audio leaflets, information videos and cassettes which will be distributed to more than five people.

Braille: This is the language used by blind or partially sighted people and is alphabetically composed of a series of raised dots on a piece of paper/card/plastic/metal etc. which blind or partially sighted people feel, using their fingertips, to read text that a sighted person would see on a page. Braille requires a special printing process.

Large Print: This is a service designed for visually impaired people. The majority of elderly people have severe difficulty with standard print. They may not be registered blind; they may not even have an illness that causes visual impairment - they just can't see as well as they used to. Most documents can be reproduced for them using larger fonts and pictures which will make reading easier.

Lipspeaking: is a form of human aid to communication between deaf people who lipread and use spoken English as their communication of choice and hearing people.

Deafblind Interpreting: This is a type of interpreting specifically for people who are deafblind or living with a combined loss of sight and hearing.

Palantyping: A Palantypist is a specially trained and qualified individual dedicated to improving communication for the deaf and hard of hearing. They use a short hand code and Palantype machine to note every word a speaker says. This code is processed and displayed on a screen in the original words so the hearing impaired do not miss anything.

Makaton Interpreting: Makaton is a method of communication using signs and symbols and is often used as a communication process for those with learning difficulties.
